London

Hackney will be more a attractive place the more chances people with various backgrounds can meet. We present a community ship which connects people and cultures in Hackney.

This ship becomes a mobile communal space for regional people and visitors by traveling between facilities and places along the canal.

The inside of the ship is accessible for everyone to have tea and work together. Its ceiling is shaped like a mirror ball reflects activities inside the ship towards the outside so people walking along the canal can see inside and be attracted to it.

Ceiling Mirror

The ceiling of the ship comprises polished metal plates which is highly reflective and able to reflect the scenery of people and the table. From outside, the reflected scenery of internal space can be viewed. The more people in the ship makes the internal scenery and ceiling more colourful.

Structure

Every steel universal column on the ship is welded on the bottom and side of the ship which strengthen the framework. The roof structure is made of timber beams. The structure becomes light and stable as the spans of columns and ceiling boards are aligned.

Community Table

There is a long table installed in the middle of the ship which can be used for: working, drinking, and chatting. The table is made of magnetic drawing board on which people can easily draw and erase pictures and letters. This function of the table encourages people to encounter and communicate. There is no additional cost to maintain and keep resources for the table as magnetic pens and magnetic coffee cups are used as drawing tools which do not require ink and dust.
